John Behan’s Ghost Boat
This ‘drawing’ is a response to John Behan’s Ghost Boat, a sculpture in the Ingram Collection. It was made for a Royal Society of Sculptor’s exhibition at the Lightbox in Woking called ‘Parallel Lines, Sculptors Drawings and the Ingram Collection’ and showed alongside works by artists including Barbara Hepworth, Nick Hornby and Julian Wild. The sculpture reminded me of boats on the sea. It has an open structure and strangely, given its greyish look, it made me feel like working in reds and pinks. I compiled previously found and made objects with new small sculptures and paintings so that the shapes created a dialogue within the work and back to Behan’s sculpture.
